You may have read an article here on Town Spirit about a teacher who discovered, decades after the fact, that she had been teaching at a residential school where abuse was rampant yet hidden from her. You can find that story again here.
That teacher, Florence Kaefer, and the student she reconnected with so many years later, Edward Gamblin, have published a book about the events, sorrow, and reconciliation they shared. Back to the Red Road is available from Caitlin Press Inc. and from Amazon. Of course you can always borrow it from your local library as well.
Florence Kaefer (nee Pockett) was born in Spirit River in 1935. She taught school for 30 years and now lives in Courtenay, B.C. To see a picture of Florence, click here.
Edward Gamblin was a singer/songwriter who was influential on the First Nations Music scene. He died in 2010. You can find his music on Amazon and YouTube.
