This week, May 25 to 31, is Paramedic Services Week – time to be sure our emergency workers know how much we appreciate them! There is a great opportunity for this on Saturday, when the Spirit River EMS station will host an open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
There is more information available on the Paramedic Chiefs website, including this explanation of why the week is called Paramedic Services Week and not Emergency Services Week:
The adoption of national occupational competency profiles and provincial legislation, in several jurisdictions, has identified the term “paramedic” to be the generic term for all out of hospital care providers. No matter where they work, who they serve or roles they provide the term “paramedic” recognizes the professionals who in many ways serve Canadians with exceptional out of hospital emergency or community care. The public, government and other allied health professions know, recognize and appreciate the professional under the banner of a paramedic.
The nation honours these people and their services this week, but here we know that, in small communities, these people touch our lives more often and perhaps more deeply than in a larger centre. Here, you probably know several paramedics personally, or their parents or kids, and they know you personally as well. Maybe that makes the job harder some days.
But on Saturday, you can help make the job as rewarding as it should be. Enjoy your hotdogs and refreshments while you’re there, at the open house 🙂
THANK YOU! To all our local paramedics 🙂
