Landmark Rail Fence

Submitted by CeeBee

One of the most familiar sights just out of Spirit River is the old railway snow fence.  The line runs alongside the highway so whenever you leave town or come in from the east you see it, often silhouetted against the sunrise or sunset.  It is both historic and scenic, and even if it doesn’t stand much in the way of the blowing snow these days, it remains as a landmark, a reminder of Spirit River’s railway, settlement, farming and ranching history.

  1. Love the photos. Snow is so pretty, but it has to be in the right places.
