Spirit of Peace United Church has a new Minister, MiYeon Kim, a student in the residency program at St Andrew’s College in Saskatoon. MiYeon is a candidate for ministry in the Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea, at the Hanshin Seminary in Seoul Korea, and has been given permission by her denomination to do her residency requirement in Canada with the United Church of Canada at St Andrew’s College. MiYeon will be with us for 23 months on a parttime basis.
This is an exciting opportunity for the people of Spirit River as well as Spirit of Peace. Our Spirit River church is a strong learning site, having hosted many student ministers in the past. Now we have the opportunity to participate in a global partnership. MiYeon Kim hopes one day to be a senior minister of a church, and hopes to use Canadian women ministers as her role models. There are lots of those in Northern Alberta and British Columbia United Churches.
With MiYeon’s interest in worship, preaching, Christian education in congregations, church communities, and the local community; as well as her interests in human rights, social justice, feminism and multiculturalism Spirit River and our church has just gained a valuable resource. I guess that I should tell you that MiYeon Kim has been an English tutor in Korea to her fellow countrymen. She hopes to improve her own English speaking ability during her stay in Spirit River. What are MiYeon Kim’s relaxation interests? Aerobics and other exercise, singing and playing music.
Come and meet MiYeon Kim at our BBQ and Corn Roast at the Spirit of Peace United Church on September 11, from 5 to 7 pm. Everyone is welcome. Also all are welcome to come to worship at Spirit of Peace at 10:30 am on Sundays.
