SubmittedYou may have noticed that those red bins for donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association near the Happy Hour Club are often surrounded by cardboard boxes full of things that don’t fit in the bin. Often, they are left out in the rain, snow and wind, ruining that donation and forcing someone else to pack up what is then garbage and dispose of it somewhere. The donation never makes it to people who would appreciate it, and time and money are wasted on cleanup.
If you have been by those bins recently, you may also have spotted this notice:
We ONLY accept CLOTHING and LINENS in these BINS. If you would like a pick up of reusable household items PLEASE give us a call: Locally 402-2180 Or TOLL FREE 1-800-505-5525 We DO NOT take at this location: Household Appliances (Ovens, freezers, fridge’s, etc.) Household Furniture (Bedroom/Living room/Kitchen Furniture) IF YOU ARE CAUGHT DUMPING ANY UNAUTHERIZED ITEMS YOU WILL BE FINED UP TO $2500.00 DOLLARS!!! Did you know that there is a more appropriate place for your gently used household items? Spirit River has our very own thrift store, run by a bevy of volunteers. The shop is located in the basement of the United Church and is open Fridays. However, if you have a donation to leave, you just have to drop it off outside the church doors at the top of the steps. This is a sheltered area, so donations will not be spoiled by the elements. The thrift shop takes many items that will not fit in the red bins; items that are not suitable for the red bins. By donating to the thrift shop in Spirit River, you can be sure that the items will stay in our own community, where people appreciate them just as much.
Don’t forget to have a look in the thrift shop some Friday yourself! You never know what little treasure you might turn up 🙂
If you see something happening in Spirit River that could be improved, why not drop a hint with Town Spirit? Someone did just that, and you got to read this post. Sending input is easy: just email email@example.com. Thank you!
