Now that June has come, plenty of people are looking forward to casting a line at one of our lovely local bodies of water. If you’re going fishing, be sure you know the rules, including these ones:
Bait, any substance that attracts fish by scent or flavour, is prohibited within the Grande Prairie watershed. Bait includes scented or flavoured lures.
Bull trout is the official fish of Alberta, and a protected species in the province. Know what they look like because there is a zero possession limit for these fish in all of Alberta.
Before you head out you’ll need a Wildlife Identification Number (WIN) card and a Sport Fishing License. You can pick up a WIN card at IGA when you get this year’s copy of Alberta Fishing Regulations. You can also apply for one online, and buy your license there as well.
If you are between 16 and 64, you’ll need that license (Happy Seniors’ Week if you’ve passed the landmark 6-5!).
Rules are different for each type of body of water, so be sure you know what you’re doing.
Have a great summer fishing season!
