Jean Cameron Kelly’s New Year 1913/14

The second school teacher in Peace River, Jean Cameron Kelly, detailed her journey to her new home in December of 1913.  On the way, she came across a New Year party complete with dancing, kissing, food and festivity.  The entry is short: read it here and carry on with Jean Cameron Kelly’s diary if you like.

What do you do to ring in the New Year in the Peace Country or wherever you are?  Tell us.  There is a lot of space in that comment box!

  1. Oh, those were the days! I was interested to see that she too crossed the Peace River on the ice. I still have nightmares about doing that! What a tough life it was back then in that harsh north country. It’s harsh enough now with all the modern conveniences. Interesting link to the museum archives! I’ve enjoyed your posts this year. All the best for a happy successful New Year.
