Ads on Town Spirit

Thanks very much to the viewer who recently informed Town Spirit of the presence of ads on this blog.

Town Spirit does not aid and abet companies such as Ford and Walmart.  Town Spirit’s administrator cannot see these ads and has never before had a tip from a reader about them (nor seen them on other WordPress blogs).  Their presence was surprising news, and, although unpleasant, it seems it is a rare occurrence.

WordPress sometimes shows ads on WordPress blogs so we bloggers can continue to run our blogs for absolutely free.  They say, “We only run them in limited places, and we do not show ads to logged-in readers, which means only a very small percentage of your page views will actually contain ads.”  There is an option to block the ads – for $30 a year.  Since Town Spirit is run by volunteers and no one makes or spends money on this blog, that upgrade is not an option.

So, be aware that you may run into an annoying page full of ads.  But be not deterred!  Just try again and you’ll get the real McCoy, the Town Spirit blog!

  1. I haven’t seen the ads, but your blog is worth the trouble and annoyance of ads, so don’t worry. I’ll still be following your posts.

Wow, thanks Anneli! Back at you 🙂 We are surrounded by ads all the time, but somehow it’s different with a blog since the blogger has no power over them. Still, if nothing can be absolutely free, at least this doesn’t cost the blogger or readers very much.
