I recently acquired this old photo of Main Street, Spirit River. It’s a tiny picture, but the quality is sharp. It must be a very old picture if, as it appears, this is the old town site. There are very few buildings and nothing that looks like the pictures in Chepi Sepe. With a magnifying glass it is possible to make out what looks like the name DeWitt on the building in the back on the left. I couldn’t find any mention of DeWitt in the history book. On the back of the photo is the note identifying the place and commenting that Spirit River looks ‘shooky’, which apparently meant something like dodgy. I think it looks more like a ghost town in the middle of nowhere… unless that’s a man on the porch of the building on the left?
I tried comparing this photo with the ones in the Glenbow Archive on the internet but the pictures are so small you can barely see them. You can request a cd of pictures – but did you know it costs $15 per picture plus $5 shipping? That’s shooky. I hope people enjoy this one, and maybe someone can tell more about it?
