Pre-June Jamboree

This article from the Edmonton Journal of July 22nd 1970 shows what June Jamboree was like before it was June Jamboree!

Organizers of Spirit River’s annual Pow-Wow to be held Saturday have joined forces with local flying types to ensure a sky-high day of entertainment.  Activities kick off with a fly-in breakfast early in the morning, followed by a parade at 11 a.m. under direction of Peter Weston.

E. V. Mella will direct an afternoon talent show, and a fiddling and guitar contest is planned for 4.30 p.m.  Trick diving and log-rolling are among afternoon events planned for the local swimming pool.

A hamburger barbecue in the early evening will be followed by gymkhana events, pony chariot races and novelty races from 7 to 9 p.m. and an outdoor dance will wind up the day.
