It’s an unlikely combination, but apparently true.
A Canadian Broadway star, Tim Howar, (Hawryluk) was born right here in Spirit River, and even though he moved away while still a kid, he had his start in life right here.
He sang with several choirs and joined the Edmonton Musical Theatre Amateur Group, and became an apprentice with Ballet North at the age of 16. He later declined a scholarship with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet.
Howar was headed for the stage, though. He had lots of roles in Canadian productions of Broadway shows. He was Gilbert in Anne of Green Gables, Marius in Les Miserables, Roger in Rent, Tommy in Tommy and Benjamin and Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (among other roles). He played the starring role in Tonight’s the Night, The Rod Stewart Musical, with the original 2003 London cast. You can catch some performances on You Tube.
He has also ventured into the big screen: he played Johnnie in Last Chance Harvey (2008).
And then he turned to rock, becoming the lead singer in the band Van Tramp. You can see that on You Tube as well. And download the ring tone!
