In the Country

Have you ever noticed how people from the Spirit River area wave at each other while travelling the back roads? In other places where people don’t acknowledge each other, the difference is certainly noticeable.

It’s just the three finger stretch or the index twitch from the top of the steering wheel, but it’s friendly.  It says, “hey, I probably know you,” and “thanks for giving me room.”  It means the other guy realizes that you’ve been courteous and responsible in slowing down to pass in case of flying rocks, or ice, or soft shoulders.  You can imagine that those people would stop and help with a flat tire.

It’s a bit old fashioned, and it’s nice.  But those are two things that never go out of date.
