Fifty years ago (less 2 days) the grand opening of the Dunvegan Suspension Bridge attracted hundreds of visitors. Today’s anniversary, though rainy and cold, attracted a crowd as well.
Spirit River, represented by Mayor Theresa Sandul, was given a special mention during the ceremonies. Many people and communities in our area feel a sort of ownership of the famous landmark and park, although at the same time we sometimes forget what a local treasure Dunvegan is. Just 20 minutes from Spirit River, we have a park and picnic area with modern facilities mixed right in with a stunning natural setting. Topping it off is the richness of local history that can be visited on many levels.
At least one resident of Spirit River worked on the Dunvegan Bridge fifty some years ago. Maybe there are many more stories on this subject out there?
